
John Dearing or JD as he likes to be called is a professional singer, specializing in American classics, from the 1940s, as well as pop tunes of the 1960s, 70s and 80s. His voice and ability to connect with audiences has made him a sought-after performer for a variety of events including, concerts, clubs and private parties. John has been performing for most of his life in choirs, bands, musical theater and in various concert venues. John grew up in the Pacific Northwest in Bremerton, Washington. After completing his U.S. Army enlistment in 1971, John attended Eastern Washington University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio and Television Management in 1974, with minors in business, vocal music, and theater. He went to work as a production assistant at KLEW-TV in Lewiston, Idaho where he honed his skills shooting and editing film, writing scripts and producing commercials. He was also an on-air reporter for the nightly local newscast, reporting sports and weather. He then worked in Bremerton, Washington on KBRO-AM and KWWR-FM radio as a salesperson, production assistant and on-air personality. He wrote scripts for local clients, produced and did voice-overs for commercials.
Meanwhile, John continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserved as a journalist and public affairs specialist. He continued his education in journalism at the distinguished Defense Information School.
John, left broadcasting to pursue a career with the U.S. Government working as a public affairs specialist in Seattle, Baltimore, St. Louis, Sacramento and San Francisco. He retired in 2010.
John, continued his military career parallel to his civilian career, advancing through the ranks becoming a section leader, First Sergeant and Command Sergeant Major. He worked in Civil Affairs at North Fort Lewis, the 629 MI Battalion in Maryland, The 91st Division Public Affairs Detachment in Sausalito, California, and the 368th Military Intelligence Battalion in Sacramento and the Oakland Army Base. After being deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as the Command Sergeant Major of the Joint Intelligence Group, John returned to the Oakland Army Base to complete his assignment there and retired as the highest enlisted person in the Battalion in 2006 after serving 32 years in the U.S. Army.
Through his duel careers in the U.S. Government and the U.S. Army, John continued pursuing his love of music and theater performing in musical theater productions, choirs and solo concerts. After retiring in 2010, John moved from California to Mesquite, Nevada where he formed a duet and performed at local clubs and country clubs. After six years in Mesquite, John moved to St. George, Utah, continuing his music pursuits at local restaurants and clubs as both a solo vocalist and with local jazz groups. He also continued performing at local community theater productions. He also recorded an album containing an array of songs from several genres. In 2020, John and his wife, Donna, moved to Estero in Southwest Florida where he honed his musical career. He performed at restaurants, country clubs, private parties and was a regular performer at the Bonita Springs/Estero Elks Lodge. During his tenure in Florida, John's repertoire expanded to include music numbers from the Great America Song Book, jazz, pop, soul, country, patriotic and religious music. John, returned West in 2025 and makes his home in Twin Falls, Idaho.
